Why Mary left Jesus behind when he was enduring the most horrible beating of all times?

Didn't Mary have a heart, compion, feelings when her "only son" was brutally beating, subsequently to his death? we all have mother and i've seen moms defending her child/children regardless of the situation her children is involved. i don't want hear nothing from the Bible
